Why Arteta will drop Raya for Brentford vs Arsenal

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta is expected to include Aaron Ramsdale for their trip to Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday. Ramsdale has all but become the Gunners’ second choice goalkeeper after David Raya’s arrival.

However, the England international is likely to start against the Bees, as Premier League rules prevent Raya from playing against his former club.

The rules state that “during the period of the temporary transfer of his contract registration a player shall not play against the transferor (parent) club.”

Raya moved to the Gunners on an initial loan, with the deal including an option to buy for £27 million ($34m).

Raya has forced his way into the Arsenal team this season at the expense of Ramsdale. Yet Raya has looked shaky at times and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s decision to switch his goalkeepers has
come under scrutiny.

Ramsdale has not started for Arsenal in the Premier League since the Gunners’ 3-1 win over Manchester United at the start of September but will feel he now has a great opportunity to force his way back into the starting XI.
