History and Biography

Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (born 8 June 1996-12 September 2023), known professionally as MohBad, was a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter from Lagos. He was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s “Marlian Records” and left the label in 2022. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria.

Education

The Oladimejis ensured that they equipped their son Mohbad with a quality education while he was growing up. He attended a leading private school for his primary school education. He completed his middle and high school education at a top public-owned school in Lagos State.

Career

He released his debut album, Light EP, in the fourth quarter of 2020 as a follow-up to his viral song “Ponmo,” which featured Naira Marley and Lil Kesh. MohBad was nominated 5 times for The Beatz Awards 2021. He was listed in Audiomack’s top 21 afrobeat artists of 2021.

In 2022, he released Peace produced by Rexxie. He peaked TurnTable charts top 50 in 2021 and top 100 in 2022.

 

Light (EP)

Mohbad issued his first EP, ‘Light’, after agreeing to a record deal with Marlian Records World in 2019. The eight songs on the EP feature Davido, Naira Marley, and Lil Kesh.

However, on October 5, 2022, Mohbad made a decision to depart from the label after a disagreement with the owner.

This move was prompted by his allegations against singer Naira Marley, asserting that he had been a victim of violence and that his former boss had instructed others to physically assault him.

According to the late singer, the incident transpired when he raised concerns with Naira Marley regarding his choice to appoint a new manager to oversee his music and business matters.

Mohbad was best known for his hit singles “Ponmo, Feel Good”, and “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” with Rexxie, which was
nominated three times for The Headies Awards in 2022.

Cause Of Dead

According to fellow singer and ally of Mohbad, Bella Shmurda, in a viral video, the late singer’s health had deteriorated to the extent he once contemplated suicide over record label tussle.

Mohbad died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, and the circumstances surrounding his death remained unknown.

Controversy

NDLEA arrest

In February 2022, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Mohbad, Zinoleesky and four other people following their possession of illegal substances like MDMA and cannabis at their home in Lekki, Lagos.
Some Viral videos on social media showed NDLEA operatives breaking into the musicians’ home in the Lekki district of Lagos State in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to witnesses, the officials carried out the arrest without any search warrants and mistreated the Marlian singers. The NDLEA officers were seen hitting the musician with clubs and shooting into the air, forcing them into waiting trucks.

NDLEA confirmed the raid, “our men raided an area in Idado estate where Naira Marley’s boys stay.” Quantities
of cannabis and molly were recovered from their apartment and car,” he told TheCable Lifestyle. Later, the NDLEA
released Mohbad, Zinoleesky and 4 other and three others.

Domestic violence allegation against Naira Marley After two years, he announced his departure from Marlian
Records. On 5 October 2022, Mohbad accused singer Naira Marley of domestic violence and stated that his former boss ordered people to beat him up. When he confronted Marley about his decision to employ a different manager to handle his music and business affairs.
