Peseiro set to submit Super Eagles provisional list

World Cup qualifiers: Again, Super Eagles fail to fly, draw 1-1 with Zimbabwe

Again, the Super Eagles had to come from behind to record a 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe. This is the second draw in the team’s two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

The Super Eagles drew 1-1 with Lesotho in their first game of the qualification series in Uyo on Thursday and followed that up with another draw at the Huye Stadium, Butare on Sunday afternoon.

Zimbabwe sat back early on allowing the Nigerian side to dictate the pace of the game. Walter Musona gave the hosts the lead in the 26th minute, firing in a free kick from outside the box.

Zimbabwe gained confidence after the break and started taking the game to the Super Eagles.

However, substitute Iheanacho equalised for the Super Eagles 25 minutes from time. The Super Eagles have now amassed two points from two games.

The Super Eagles next match will be against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in June, 2024.
